Knowledge gives a good foundation, but skills are key to leveraging that knowledge. The link here is an article that explains the difference. Checkout -https://elearningindustry.com/difference-between-knowledge-and-skills-knowing-not-make-skilled

There are several examples on YouTube which teach how to apply skills, e.g. DevOps and testing - https://youtu.be/a9_oMNSgX2g

DevOps is a methodology for programmers to create a robust programming product across the full cycle of creation, deployment, and continuous use.   One might be the best programmer to develop an algorithm based on knowledge, but the practice to make it work in a sustained way requires skills to apply such methods.

With the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), skills also mean the ability to apply traditional use cases that are becoming obsolete due to automation and AI, but transforming the use case to the creation of new tools that have a new business model for employment.

As machines take over manual work, there are skills needed to keep the machines in check, so that the machines don’t make mistakes, boundary conditions to detect those checks, and such boundary conditions would come from the same use cases as manual work but as policies in the machine control.    The ability to transform from manual to machine needs skills.  Here is a link to a related news story on the subject of AI and skills.

Always think of how you will put to practice what you learn.   It is also important that when learning new skills, one has to be flexible and adaptable to any task, as there will always be learning whether it is programming, testing, quality control, etc.

We encourage all students to do hands-on projects whether in summer break internships or the final year of their degree to gain more skills and experience.
